Homemade Rod Bending Tools
These tools are certainly a good way of getting into metal bending the cheap way,and they do work good. click on the pictures to enlarge.
These homemade benders I use for the 1/4 inch rod that is used for making the name signs, and number signs. All the benders make 3 inch high letters or numbers. For the P,B,D,J,R,U I can use the green bender, other letters and numbers are written on the tool itself. Any letters that have all straight pieces in them, like I,L,K,W, etc. I just cut pieces of rod and grind the ends the angle to fit together each letter.

This rod bender below is fully adjustable, it will bend up to 1/2 inch rod with no problem. The main plate with all the holes taped for a 20 X 1/2 bolt size, is 6 X 6 X 1/2 inches with 1-1/2 X 1/2 inch welded to bottom, if you start bigger the larger circles you can bend. The pulley is an 9 inch diameter,"with a chunk missing" and that is about as big of a bend it will do. The smaller solid round wheels, are for 3, 1-1/2, 1, and more can be added. When using the bender I clamp it into my vice, onto the 1-1/2 inch wide piece that is welded to the bottom. The handle is made with 1-1/2 X 1/2 inch bar doubled on the working end, with a pipe welded to the other end.
