2009 MINOT MOTOR SPORTS OFFICIAL RACE RULES
SECTION 1; MEMBERSHIP & RACE ENTRY FEES
1. Yearly Minot Motor Sports (MMS) club fee is $50.00 per family.
2. Race entry fees for MMS club members is $10.00 per race day, or $100.00 per year, if paid prior to the beginning of the first race.
3. If more than one person from the same family is racing, the fee is $10.00 per race for the first member and $5.00 for each subsequent member, with a maximum of $25.00 per family. A yearly fee of $150.00 (club fee and race entry fee) can also be paid, if paid prior to the first race.
4. Race entry fee for nonmembers is $15.00 per race day.
Note: All race fees are due before the drop of the green flag for the first race of the
day. After the driver takes the green flag, fees will not be refunded.
SECTION 2: DRIVER INFORMATION
1. All drivers must sign a waiver of liability release on a yearly basis before using the track.
2. All minors must sign a waiver of liability release on a yearly basis before using the track.
3. All first time drivers will start at the back of the formation for their first two complete race days of the year.
4. Two stroke drivers must be a least 16 years of age unless they have a minimum of 1 year of previous kart racing experience in another class.
5. Four stroke driver ages are assigned to the following classes: JR1 class- Age 6-9 (young rookies only) JR2 class-Age 10-12 Medium- Age 13-15 Heavy- Age 16-Adult
Four stroke drivers may request to move up or down an age class. Requests must be in writing to a club officer and a minimum of 3 club officers will vote on the request.
SECTION 3: PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
1. All drivers must wear helmets with chin straps fastened. Helmets must meet or exceed ASA Z90, SNELL 90, or SNELL 95 or greater SNELL foundation standards.
2. All drivers will wear eye protection devices, either helmet face shields or goggles.
3. All drivers will wear a minimum of a heavy long sleeve jacket, long pants (no lighter than denim) and sturdy shoes that cover the entire foot. A special karting suit or racing leathers are strongly recommended.
4. All drivers will wear leather or karting racing gloves.
5. All drivers
must wear a neck support collar.
SECTION 4: TRACK OPERATIONS
1. Each class will run two heat races (two A and two B heats depending on the number of racers) and one feature race per race day.
2. A heat must consist of a minimum of four karts. If there are less than 8 karts in a class there will be one A and one B heat for that class.
3. The club can combine two similar classes for their heat races and feature due to a low kart count for that class. Each class will receive its own points based on how they finish against their own class members.
4. Line up for the feature race will be determined by points compiled in the heat races. The final line up will be in reverse order of the total points acquired that race day. Note: Section 2 rule 3 applies to the feature race.
5. Line up for the first heat will be selected randomly by drivers drawing numbers for their starting position. The second heat will be in reverse order of the initial lineup of the first heat.
6. The flagman will call drivers to their kart and will announce to start engines. Once your engine is started, make your way onto the track and line up as quickly as possible.
7. Once in formation the flagman will indicate one or two laps until the green flag.
8. The field will only be held a maximum of 3 laps to wait on stragglers.
9. Any kart joining the race after the 1 lap signal must start at the rear of the formation. Note: Section 2 rule 3 does not apply in this situation.
10. If a spinout occurs on the first lap, the flagman will throw the caution flag and realign the field to the initial starting lineup. Note: Section 4 rule 8 applies here.
11. After the first complete lap, if a kart causes a caution they will be placed at the back of the field. If is unclear who caused the caution, all karts will be placed at the back of the field on order of the last green flag lap. Note: Section 2 rule 3 does not apply in this situation.
12. Drivers will remain in line and not pass until the green flag is thrown at the start of the race.
13. After the first lap, any restarts will be in single file with the line up reverting back to the last green lap.
14. When two or more karts enter a turn together the one that is behind, be it an
inch or a foot, is required to make the turn without endangering or impairing the progress of the lead kart. The lead kart shall not crowd the other kart off the track. If a kart causes a caution, they will be placed at the back of the field. If it is unclear who caused the caution, all karts involved, will be placed at the back of the field in order of the last green flag lap. If there is a spinout as a result of unintentional bumping, a caution will be thrown and the field will be set back to the last green flag lap. If a kart spins out on its own and there is no concern for track safety, the field will remain green.
15. In the event of a mechanical problem, hold up your right hand signaling to the other drivers you have a problem and are off of the racing pace. Hold your line until it is clear to make your way off the racing surface. At this point the flagman will throw the caution flag until the kart is cleared from the track, out of racing danger or back to the pits, green flag racing will resume from the start of the last green lap.
16. The flagman will make the decision on when to throw the caution flag taking into account the safety of the situation. Remain with your kart until the caution flag has been displayed. Proceed promptly to the pits off of the racing surface with your kart in tow. You will be given a maximum of 3 laps to continue racing in the heat, (SECTION 4 RULE 8) if and only after you enter the pits.
17. Any driver, pit crew, or parents who threatens, argues with other drivers, pit crews, parents, or the flagman will be disqualified.
18. Between races the flagman will wait a maximum of 15 minutes for kart repairs. If requested, the flagman may call the race for the next class if all drivers in the next class agree to race.
19. Protests must be submitted in writing to a club officer. In most cases, officers will make a decision regarding the protest at the track. If a driver, crew, or parent brings a protest to the flagman, the kart will be disqualified.
SECTION 5: PIT RULES
1. Drive slowly into the pits.
2. Only tow vehicles allowed into the pit area.
3. Crew members must wear shirts, long pants and shoes that cover the entire foot.
4. Absolutely no young children on pit row, children should be held away from karts and tow vehicles.
5. No smoking allowed in the immediate pit areas. Smoking should be held away from the karts and tow vehicles.
6. Pets must be leashed and under close supervision at all times.
SECTION 6: DISQUALFICATION
1. Results from disqualification (to be determined by club officers). A. Loss of points for the day’s event. B. Suspension from racing for the day.
C. Termination of club membership. (Voted upon by all club members, with a majority of votes required)
2. Disqualification decisions must be agreed upon by a minimum of three MMS officers.
3. Grounds for disqualification include:
A. Failure to correct illegal equipment.
B. Consuming any controlled substance be it alcohol or drug form, before or
during an event.
C. Fighting or excessive arguing.
D. Any unnecessary or unsafe driving to include but not
limited to, bumping, crowding, or blocking.
E. Disregarding the flagman.
SECTION 7: SCORING AND POINTS
1. The driver will receive points for every race that a green flag is taken unless of disqualification.
2. Points are awarded to the driver and not the kart.
3. If only one kart is entered in a racing class, the driver will receive first place points for each heat and the feature, however, they must take the green flag in each heat and feature for the class that they run in that day.
4. Championship points will be determined by removing the 2 lowest daily racing scores received by the driver, and adding all other race day points together.
SECTION 8: ENGINE RULES
1. Two stroke engines
A. Stock appearing Yamaha KT 100 engine, with a stock appearing Walbro carburetor.
B. No alcohol aspirated engines. C. No direct drives.
2. Four stroke engines- 235 & 250 pounds
A. Current IKF rules apply
B. Tillotson 357B carburetor is a legal option to running the Briggs and Stratton carburetor.

SECTION 9: WEIGHT AND AGE CLASSES
1. Two Strokes- minimum weight of 320 pounds. Age 16-adult or one year of racing experience in another class.
2. Four strokes- JR1- 235 pounds. Age 6-9 (young rookies only). JR2- 250 pounds. Age 10-12 Medium- 275 pounds. Age 13-15 Heavy- 360 pounds. Age 16-adult All of the above are minimum weights.
3. Total weight includes go kart, driver, and normal racing safety gear combined on scale.
SECTION 10: CHASSIS RULES
1. No home built frames.
2. Number plates on front and back of kart are mandatory.
3. There shall be no sharp edges that may cause injuries or and accident.
4. All fasteners on the brake system, wheels, and steering assembly will be cotter pinned or safety wired.
5. Chain guards are mandatory.
6. Brakes must be in good working condition.
7. Extra weights must be securely fastened to the kart.
8. Floor pans are mandatory with no holes larger than 1 inch.
9. A throttle return spring is mandatory.
10. A basic safety inspection of all karts will be performed before and /or during all races.
11. Any unsafe or dangerous items must be fixed before kart will be allowed to race, no exceptions.
SECTION 11; SCALING AND TECH
1. The top three karts will be scaled after the feature. After the checkered flag, the drivers must proceed directly to the scale. Working or adjusting on the kart is not allowed. The scale will be open prior to racing so drivers and crews can check their weight.
2. After racing is completed for the day, the class to be tech inspected will be randomly drawn. Additionally, two items to be tech inspected will be randomly drawn. The top three karts in the feature will be teched. Only the driver and one member of the crew will be allowed in the tech inspection area. Karts to be teched will proceed directly from the scale to the tech area
SECTION 12: GENERAL RULES
1. The club will not race in the rain. Wet conditions will be reviewed by the group and a decision on whether to race or not will be determined by the MMS club officers.
2. Rainout dates will try to be made up when possible.
3. Races will not be called until at least race time. A rain delay will be decided at that point if weather conditions warrant.
4. All club members are responsible for helping maintain the track and surrounding areas.
SECTION 13: RACE POINT SYSTEM
Points are awarded for every race a green flag is taken unless of disqualification. Points are given to the driver and not the kart. If only one kart shows up for a race, the driver will receive first place points for each heat and the feature, however, they must take the green flag for each race. Out of the 12 scheduled races for the season, championship points will count for the 10 highest point races. The following is the point scale for all classes.

Heat 1 points are awarded from first to last finisher in descending increments of 10, starting at 120.
Heat 2 points are awarded from first to last finisher in descending increments of 11, starting at 129.
Feature points are awarded from first to last finisher in descending increments of 15, starting at 200.
It is recommended that all drivers keep track of their points for the season. The club score keeper will keep track of points and finishing order for each race. They will become official, barring protest, at the end of the race day. Any questions should be brought to the attention of club officials.
The above rules have been voted on and approved by club members. Any protest to rules or rule violations must be filed within 3 days of the race, or discovery of violation, with the club president or vice president of MMS. The president or vice president will have 10 days to decide on the protest. Excessive protests will result in disqualification and/or loss of points equal to, but not more than 1 race win. Any problems/violations not covered will be addressed as needed. In any case not covered, a minimum of 3 club officers/members will decide on the outcome.
I have read the Minot Motor Sports rules and regulations and understand all its sections and contents. I also agree to abide by the rules as listed in the regulation manual. If I have a formal complaint or disagreement with the above rules, I will notify a club officer and follow the proper channels to resolve the situation.
